Join the digital transformation without up-front investments
Release of 3D print service platform at OTWorld
Press release: Create it REAL, Aalborg, Denmark, May 2024
How do you get on board the ship of digital transformation for manufacturing orthopedic products? 3D printing has the potential to change and improve production technology forever—and our goal is to make it happen.
With additive manufacturing, we open doors to a new way of producing customized orthopedic products. It is not a 1:1 replacement of how products are crafted today but a change to a completely new technology that offers new possibilities for designing and selecting materials.
This is exemplified by the traditional crafting of corrective braces, where a large polypropylene plate is vacuum molded into a brace. The 3D-printed version is still using the same material. Still, it is possible to add multi-stiffness so that the parts vital for pressure can be more rigid and others more flexible in prioritizing comfort.
Another example is Programmable Foam®, which replaces traditional foam in orthopedic applications like seating and insoles. In these applications, additive manufacturing represents a change in production method and material. This combination results in a minimum 90% reduction of waste in production, enhanced comfort from better ventilation and hygiene, and the possibility to incorporate hardness/softness zones in the design.
We also learned that our digital-first approach is disrupting traditional workflows, the biggest hurdle to overcome and a hurdle worth crossing. So why don’t you jump on the ferry?
Take the 3D print service ferry to get started
3D print services might be the way to get started in digital transformation without upfront investments. Since we started the print service about a year ago, we have seen increasing interest and are investing to make it even better and flawless. Our 3D printers have already clocked thousands of hours, demonstrating a notable increase in demand over recent months.
Recognizing our client’s diverse needs, we offer a “try before buying” scheme for those considering acquiring their own manufacturing solution and a robust print-on-demand service for those who prefer to utilize our production capabilities. These offerings underscore our commitment to flexibility and customer-centric innovation.
Launch of 3D print service platform
As part of our commitment to customer satisfaction, we are launching a user-friendly digital ordering platform. This platform simplifies the ordering process, making it easy for customers to place orders after completing a straightforward onboarding process. We are committed to taking the complexity out of additive manufacturing and making solutions operated by orthopedic professionals who can focus on the product, not the technology.
Jacob Nissen, CEO of Create it REAL, shared his enthusiasm about the progress and implications:
"I'm truly proud of the incredible progress we're making in transforming orthopedic care and making digital transformation approachable. By continuously innovating, we're meeting the growing demand for personalized care and staying committed to sustainability and accessible technology. This is an exciting time for us, and really, it's just the start. We're eager to keep pushing the boundaries of what's possible in this industry, ensuring that professionals and patients benefit from our technologies."
The 3D print platform is an investment in the future to expand the print service in Europe, which is just the first step. The platform can be experienced at exhibitions during 2024, starting with OTWorld in May, or by contacting our sales representatives.
Sustainability through technology
We were born green, and sustainability is our natural driver. Produce what is needed and save time and resources by decentralizing and tapping into additive manufacturing. Additive manufacturing with FDM technology reduces waste by more than 90% and creates much cleaner and workers-friendly conditions. Most importantly, the end-users get a much better product.
At Create it REAL, we are passionate about empowering creativity through 3D printing. Our highly skilled 3D printing team is based in Aalborg, Denmark, and we’ve been at the forefront of the industry for over a decade. Throughout our mission to make 3D printing accessible and enjoyable for everyone, we strive to impact the industry positively. Our Embrace suite for orthopedic applications includes CAM solutions for insoles, corsets, and seats, providing a range of opportunities for businesses within the healthcare sector seeking to mass-customize high-quality products for individuals.
Central design and local production
By centralizing design and decentralizing production, we streamline operations and strengthen the efficiency of delivering top-tier orthopedic products. This model supports local economies and advances our commitment to sustainability.
Looking ahead, our strategy involves partnering with leading orthopedic experts to establish local print service hubs equipped with the latest 3D printing technology from a global perspective. We are excited to promote our partnership with Shapemakers at OTWorld, where they will join us as co-exhibitors and collaborate in our workshops.
Our first establishment of a local print hub in Athens with the Ortholife group highlights our success in expanding. The hub’s continuous operation speaks volumes about the growing need for our specialized services. Eleftherios Samiotis, CEO of Ortholife, who played a pioneering role by offering our complete range of products as a reseller in Greece, Cyprus, and the Middle East, commented, “Being the first to establish a local print hub and resell the full spectrum of Create it REAL’s innovative products has been an exciting experience. It has allowed us to lead the market in providing customized, advanced solutions that truly meet the needs of our clients.”
Moreover, we are on the brink of launching another hub in Ireland with LCS Ltd. Luke Conway of LCS will showcase his innovative Wheelair system, featuring a 3D printed cushion, at our booth.
Peter Ruijtenberg, CEO of Shapemakers, also shared his perspective on the advancements:
Our headquarters in Aalborg remains a center of excellence for production, research, and development. Here, our dedicated team works tirelessly to accommodate the increasing demand for our services, ensuring a smooth onboarding process for new clients and efficient sample production.
